Boys and their Toys

My honey and his toy.

He loves this thing, I think.
He loves to "grub" trees.

I should have taken pictures of all the mesquite trees he has in piles.

He does really good work clearing the land.

Whaaat? ??
Hmm.

RemodelaholicFeature

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

Edited to say - I seem to be having a problem with blogger or my interenet today. Remodelaholic's web page is remodelaholic.com. One of my sweet, sweet, sweetest (and brand new mommy to little Miss Molly Miller) followers left me a comment that says the link is not working. She's right. I can't seem to open Remodelholic's page at all. Oh, I hope I didn't break it!! That would be about right. Still, let me know if you can get there or not.

I'm on my way to the city so, I must go shopping now.

See ya.

Guest Bath Reveal

Ooh she's so pretty now. This is a small bath in our guest bedroom, it features a tiled shower and a built in cabinet for towels and bathroom necessities. I have been working on the bedroom too. I featured some of the work in this post if you want to see more.
Before.
The picture is a little dark and does not do justice to just how ugly it was. This was an example of a good idea gone horribly wrong. From the picture I had in my mind - to what the paint contractor heard - to this. And whatever they used to seal the top yellowed, so it really was pretty bad.

So I stripped it,

and sanded it back past the stain.

At this point I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. I contemplated trying to achieve what I had in mind the first time around but as I worked with this piece and pondered what to do, I began to realize how simple the design is. It seemed to speak to me and what I heard was, "kiss it", also know as keep it simple sweetheart.

So, I used these tools to distress the wood and that seemed to give it a more rustic, western look.

Put on a lovely and beautiful stain color.

I used polyurethane satin finish and bee's wax to seal it.

It looks so good - much, much better.
Next, I need to find something to go on the wall above the commode and a white rug for the floor. Two very easy things to do.

I don't really need storage but maybe a cute shelf for display or a nice picture.

So, what do yo think? Kind of a quiet, almost spa look.

I'm linking up again, woo I'm on a roll twice in one day. Now if I can just figure out how to link to more than one party.

Lamp Project

I started with a cute little lamp from the Dollar Store.

A quick glimpse of the original finish, I got a little carried away and forgot to take before photos.

I used one of my favorite products, joint compound, and applied it to the base to create texture.

I used the lampshade as it was and covered it with skrim fabric. I used paper to make a template and cut out fabric for each section and applied it on with spray adhesive.
Once the joint compound was dry I gave it a quick sanding just to knock it down a bit.

My game plan was to paint and then glaze but as I was reaching for this paint,

I saw this
and it reminded me of this.

I've never used a leafing product before so why not give it a try. I brushed a thin coat of paint on to set the joint compound, used the tacky size that came with the kit and just put the silver leaf on. It was easy, but no time for pictures.

For the lamp shade I continued using the scrim and made some shabby roses, ribbons, corded trim and a little cotton lace.

This isn't it's permanent home, I finished the little vanity for my guest bathroom and my plan it to put it in there. Pictures tomorrow, promise.

I am going to link up with some parties this week. Join me at Between Naps on the Porch

Just know, I don't ususally link up ... I'm a little shy, really! This is out of my comfort zone.
